ME1 ficlet: Mako conversation #3, Garrus
After they slid to a stop and the screeching groans of tortured metal died away, there was dead silence in the Mako’s cabin. Mica did a quick check on vitals, confirming her passengers had made the jump largely unscathed. She definitely couldn’t say the same for their vehicle. “Sorry, Garrus.”
“For what?” He sounded groggy, disoriented.
“You put a lot of time into this truck, and I don’t think even you can put it back together from this one.”
He chuckled weakly. “I hadn’t anticiapted it needing to survive you taking it through a relay at speed while under heavy fire.” There was a thoughtful pause. “In retrospect, that was probably an oversight on my part.”
Face shielded by the visor of her helmet, Mica allowed herself a grin at that.
Garrus sounded tentative when he spoke again. “Are you feeling all right, Shepard?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you apologize before. For anything.”
Mica wasn’t sure how to respond, but she was saved from having to.
“She’s probably in shock. It’ll pass.”
Kaidan would pay for that. Later. Right now, they had more important priorities.
“Out of the wreckage, both of you. There’s an army of geth out there, and they’re keeping us from a turian who’s seriously pissed me off. Let’s go.”
This is THE BEST.
