This show was an insanely important part of my adolescence.
I got bullied in junior high— most kids get bullied in school at some point. But in 8th grade Daria came on tv and changed my life. Her complete lack of fucks given opened my eyes to the possibility of not giving a damn what people think. I didn’t have to take their abuse, I didn’t have to keep quiet because that was what people expected.
So I responded to hurtful remarks with scathing sarcasm. I hit back whenever anyone tried to trip me. I told people to back off me and my friends when they were giving us dirty looks. And more sarcasm, lots of sarcasm.
Halfway through 8th grade and I stop being bullied. I haven’t been bullied since.
I think that’s because bullies are cowards at heart. Thy go after people weaker than them. And you know what? I proved to them— and more importantly to myself— that I was stronger than they’d ever be.
Thanks, Daria.

Daria & Jane would be 31 now. Trent would be 36 and Quinn would be 29. Wow, can you believe it? I sure can’t.
Holy fuck, it’s like looking in a mirror. Long live Daria!
