“In an alternate dimension,
without military regs,
I would rock your world.”
I’ve been giving this matter a huge chunk of thought, because the comment on the bioware forums was bugging the shit out of me. It just wasn’t in Joker’s character to use the Alliance regulations as a way to let Shepard down easy purely because he wasn’t interested. Which broke my goddamn heart, and I can’t stand how people defend that reasoning with the EDI/Joker defence.
EDI could have been so much more than just Joker’s sexy robot girlfriend. In my opinion they should have focused more on the aspect of becoming sentient rather than force on us that weird awkward courtship dance between her and Joker. But anyway, my distaste for what the writers/devs did to EDI aside…
Of course I had to think of another possibility that would still make him a viable LI in at least ME3. Or at least, explain the purgatory scene to myself in a more positive light.
It’s clear that while Joker may laugh at the Alliance protocols at times, he’s still a very professional man who takes his job seriously. We all know he worked his ass off to get where he is, so it’s natural to ask why he would risk it like Kaidan when there’s the possibility he’d be reassigned to a different ship. I think Joker developed a deeper bond with both Shepard and the Normandy, his arrogance perhaps stretching to the belief that no one else could keep up with the Commander. If he was reassigned because of something so stupid as fraternization, who would fish her/his ass out of the flames?
I’m sure he cares, and if he were less professional like Kaidan (in a sense, don’t kill me Kaidan fans) he’d go for it, but there’s just too much risk involved.
EDI on the other hand is the Normandy, there’s no risk involved dating her. Obviously he’s checked. That doesn’t scream ‘destiny’ and ‘meant to be’, that just shouts ‘loneliness’ no matter how well they work together, or how great they get along. He wants that connection, and that breaks my heart.
I would have loved a scene with Shepard and Joker afterwards, with Shepard telling Joker that he/she’d never let that happen. That it isn’t some stupid fling like they’d intended Allers to be. AUGH, it’s just so much wasted potential. They could have had a great heart to heart that worked into when Shepard cracked at Joker on the bridge in that one scene.
I mean I haven’t seen it yet but I’ve seen enough gifs to agree with the sentiment that adding a Paragon interrupt kiss would have been fantastic.
Even if it pissed him off. Lmfao. Ok I’m done. I’m going to go crawl back into my cave.
