It was three years that Hawke and Anders had been gone, and Aveline still didn’t know why they’d chosen her, hardened warrior that she was, to be guardian to their three children. She was hardly motherly, though, to be fair, Donnic was.
No, she would never understand why’d they chosen her, but as she kissed each head goodnight and blew out the bedroom candle, she was glad they had.
